Camp Reservations Policy (updated Dec. 2018)
To allow for a more orderly and equal distribution of Hukilau summer camp reservations, and to provide benefit to the largest number of local families and residents as possible, the following policy went into effect June 1, 2019: Hukilau campgrounds are reserved for ward units of the Laie Hawaii Stake and the Laie Hawaii North Stake for the Summer break weeks. For 2020, this period runs Monday, June 1 through Saturday, August 1, 2020.
For other reservation dates for Hukilau campgrounds, and for all Po'ohaili campgrounds dates, reservations are made only by phone at 9:00 a.m. on the first business day of the month, six (6) months prior to camping date. For example, all reservations for the month of June 2012 were taken by phone starting on January 2, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. The reservations phone number is 293-6403 – you need to talk to a live person, so please do not leave a message to call back or send an e-mail message. No walk-up reservations will be taken. One reservation per call only.
To remain valid, reservations must be confirmed by filling out and signing the camping permit application, with full payment of campgrounds fees submitted, no later than 3 months prior to the campsite reservation date.
Campgrounds Fee Schedule (effective Jan. 1, 2020)
The Hukilau Beach and Po'ohaili campgrounds are privately owned, managed and maintained, and made available to local church units and families in the community. The Hukilau campgrounds received improvements in 2019 for safety and convenience, including:
• The campgrounds were expanded to accommodate two large groups at a time (e.g., two ward camps),
• New grass and sprinkler systems were installed,
• The parking area was improved and re-graveled, and
• Trees which had previously posed a safety hazard and prevented grass from growing, were removed.
• In addition, in the near future appropriate perimeter landscaping, such as Naupaka, Kamani and Beach Heliotrope will be planted.
As mentioned last year*, in order to cover the costs of these improvements and the on-going maintenance of the property, beginning January 1, 2020 user fees will be charged (*see our Dec. 6, 2018 update). Each of the two camp sites at Hukilau will be $650 per week or $130 per day, while the fee for half a camp site will be $325 per week or $65 per day. Fees for the Po'ohaili campgrounds will be $325 per week or $65 per day, while the fee for a half camp site will be $175 per week or $35 per day.
Camping application is provided for informational purposes only, and hiking / access agreement is a separate permit. To minimize scheduling conflicts, we ask that it be filled out with an HRI employee at our office.
