Sproat-Fonoimoana, an adjunct professor of health education at BYU-Hawaii for over 35 years, was born and raised in Punaluu, Oahu. She graduated from the Kamehameha School for Girls and BYU-Hawaii, and continues her life-long interest in health by studying laau lapaau-traditional Hawaiian plant medicine. Sproat-Fonoimoana served for 16 years on the board of Ke Ola Mamo, a native Hawaiian health care system, and remains involved in community health activities as a volunteer hospice respite care giver. She is also involved with the Windward Oahu Soil & Water Conservation District.
